Well with the Europeans over last weekend, and having sat down and watched the video I must say that I am very impressed by the Mach 2′s.
Looking at the videos, the Mach2′s are just higher, flatter and more stable than the other boats that were filmed. The rest of the fleet looks quick, however I can’t shake the feeling that they are sailing along, but looking like Porche 911′s racing against three black Lamborghini Murcielago’s.
So is the Mach 2′s the ubér moth? In my opinon, probably not, but in those conditions, they looked very impressive, which undoubtedly suited their thinner low drag foils.
After watching I began to ask myself how close are they to achieving their design brief …
The boat had to be fast enough to win the 2009 World championships, but it must be also capable of achieving this “straight out of the box” Our goal is that the black art of “tweaking” will not apply to this boat in the way it has to other production designs, that those “in the know” do not have an advantage over your regular Jo.
Win the 2009 world championships … only time will tell. Quick straight out of the box … looks that way.
Bladerider however won’t go down without a fight. You can guarantee that they won’t be happy with being “able to stay with the two leaders at times”. So the worlds are shaping up to be a very, very interesting contest.
Plenty tweaking and tuning going on with custom systems and control settings and wands from what I saw. The only thing that comes out the box is black art Moth.

Anyways he mentions that the repair and mod list has gone past 50 items -try doing that without opening the box!
They would have had to have spent months, thrashing a couple of prototypes to achieve the “out of the box” thing. They rolled straight into production, probably so that boats would be delivered for the worlds.
Just because Scott is going tweak mad crazy does it mean that all the Mach2′s are … tweaked or not, they looked bloody fast to me.
Wicked fast – yes! Out of the box? Not for long without a long list of mods. Some shortcomings downright unexplainable – like lack of a decent vang system. Great design seriously compromised by attitude. Can’t live without it and can’t live with it. The kind of stuff that kills classes. Just look at the entry list for the Gorge!
Not sure the Mach2′s a class killer – just got beaten by a Ninja and a Prowler at the UK nationals. Mike had legs on everyone in the breeze.. perhaps you black isn’t the only fast colour..
