I have always liked Scott’s moths. His ropes are always über neat with as few knots as possible. And Scott being the kind, caring guy that he is likes to share them via sailingbits.com.
We’ll whilst on hiatus last week I was determined to teach myself how to splice. So after work today I got myself a set of fids and set about re-doing my vang and my wing support rope knot-free and here are the results.

Whilst not perfect, I am happy with my first attempt. The vang is even using the same 2 year old ropes just re-done.
Did you use locking splices?
It doesn’t look like it.
You need to google a Brummel splice
you pass the long end through the short one (not the other way round as you’ve done) to create a locking splice.
Fids are a waste of money. The best splicing tool is a long piece of wire with a loop in one end.
Thanks for the tips guys, I have indeed done it the “other way around” as Marty has picked, re-reading the guide that I was following I somehow missed that bit …. no probs, I’ll just re-do them.
locking splices are over rated just do a long bury and a couple of stiches.
